“Learning by doing” and “hands-on” are both phrases used in describing the concept of experiential learning. At their core, internships and the early stages of any structured full-time development program are built upon the premise of experiential learning. In addition to workplace-based experiential learning, custom designed events comprised of team-based challenges and scenarios also offer an opportunity to learn by doing, often in a non-traditional environment (e.g. outdoors) but with learning outcomes transferable to the most traditional of workplace settings.
